Herk
Maldonado, MBA: Before joining Complete
Leadership, Herk Maldonado built a long, varied and impressive career
in the health benefits industry. Most
of his career was associated with BlueCross and BlueShield companies
in executive positions with increasing responsibilities.
Herk has also been an independent consultant in this field
working with both health plans and healthcare providers.
Herk’s broad
executive experience includes corporate-level strategic and
operational planning, marketing and sales, managed care and pharmacy
benefits program development, medical cost/utilization management,
network development and management, market research-analysis and
strategy, and human resources. He
has substantial experience in the fields of healthcare financing and
delivery, and in the unique dynamics of healthcare economics and
trends.
Herk is credited with developing/establishing numerous strategies,
products and programs with health plans, health care providers and
pharmacies. These include
HMOs, various health insurance products, managed care programs focused
on health care quality and efficiency, a national prescription card
benefits product, and numerous health care provider networks for
health plans. He has also
spearheaded many successful efforts to improve performance worth
hundreds of millions of dollars during his career.
His experience includes service with both not-for-profit and
for-profit companies, and has strategy and people experience in
corporate consolidation situations.
As Senior Vice President of
Corporate Planning and Research for The Regence Group, Herk designed
and led major corporate strategic and operational planning in a
complex organizational environment.
The Regence Group served as a holding/management company for
five BlueCross and BlueShield Plans that consolidated in the
Pacific Northwest
.
The planning process that Herk designed and managed was
instrumental in developing a single company focus for the integration
of these health plans.
In his
experience in a variety of corporate settings, Herk observed obstacles
to effective executive performance and strategy execution that were
not evident to the untrained eye.
Since being introduced to Complete Leadership, Herk now
realizes that it was some of the individual executive’s Background
Processes that were driving unintended behavior, or blocking intended
action to achieve planned results.
Such unperceived Background Processes were also instrumental in
failures to “Walk the Talk”. In
some instances it prevented executives from leading.
Herk
received his Bachelor’s degree from
Eastern
Oregon
State
University
and his MBA from the
University
of
Phoenix
.
